ISM Designated Person Ashore DPA course

This highly interactive three-day ISM Designated Person Ashore DPA course is designed for current DPAs and those who may deputise for the DPA.  Meeting the requirements of IMO’s MEPC7_Circ6, this course is also relevant for those who need to fully understand the role and responsibilities of the DPA in the management of safety and organisational compliance with the ISM Code.

This course can either be delivered at company premises or an agreed alternative location. Upon successful course completion, the delegate will receive a Nautical Institute approved training certificate.

Course Objectives

Course delegates will develop greater understanding of the ISM Code with regard to the responsibilities held by a DPA, including:

  • Raising delegate awareness of current themes in safety and environmental compliance
  • Facilitating the sharing of current industry best practice
  • Allowing delegates to demonstrate continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Enabling delegates to meet the requirements of IMO MSC-MEPC7_Circ6Guidance on the Qualifications, training and experience necessary for undertaking the role of the Designated Person under the provision of the ISM Code

A Designated Person should have a minimum of formal education as follows: Qualifications from a tertiary institution recognized by the Administration or by the recognized organization, within a relevant field of management, engineering or physical science, or Qualifications and seagoing experience as a certified ship officer pursuant to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978, as amended, or Other formal education combined with not less than three years’ practical senior level experience in ship management operations
