ISM Audit (Management Level)

Our highly-experienced maritime management consultants are able to undertake an independent ISM Audit (Management Level) on behalf of a company’s management team, to determine the suitability and effectiveness of the organisation’s ISM system.

ISM Audit (Management Level)

The International Safety Management (ISM) Code provides an international standard for the safe management and operation of ships at sea and for pollution prevention. Adopted in 1994 by the International Convention of Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) within Chapter IX and requiring implementation by 1998, its objectives are:

  • To ensure safety at sea
  • To prevent human injury or loss of life
  • To avoid damage to the environment, in particular to the marine environment, to the ship and other property

To comply with the ISM Code, the company assuming responsibility for operation of a vessel is required to take over all of the duties and responsibilities imposed by the Code (e.g. maintaining appropriate certification, such as the Document of Compliance, ensuring every vessel has a functional Safety Management System (SMS), designating a person ashore as a link between the company and the ship etc.)

In undertaking the independent ISM Audit (Management Level), we generate concise and accurate reports identifying non-conformities, observations and noteworthy remarks. Our aim is to assist our clients to remove non-conformities and provide pragmatic solutions to compliance issues.

Our clients often choose to combine the ISM Audit with an ISPS Audit, conducted at the same time. Please contact us to discuss your particular requirements.
