Port Risk Assessments

The Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC) was developed in 2000 and sets out a national standard for every aspect of port marine safety, including port risk assessments for marine operations.

port risk assessments

The PMSC’s aim is to enhance safety for everyone who uses or works in the UK port marine environment and it is endorsed by the UK Government, the devolved administrations and representatives from across the maritime sector.

Section 2.7 of the PMSC requires risks associated with marine operations to be assessed and a means of controlling them to be deployed. The aim of this process is to eliminate the risk, or failing that, to reduce risks as low as reasonably practicable

The Marine Safety Management System (MSMS) should also refer to the use of formal risk assessment, which should be reviewed periodically as well as part of post incident/accident investigation activity.

Our consultants have the experience and capability to undertake formal risk assessments on behalf of our clients, including navigation and marine risk assessments for all wet side operations in ports.
