Ports – Overview

Our management consultants are regarded as experts on the practical application of the Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC) and were contracted by the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) to train their surveyors to undertake verification visits.

Port Marine

The Port Marine Safety Code was developed in 2000 and sets out a national standard for every aspect of port marine safety. Its aim is to enhance safety for everyone who uses or works in the UK port marine environment and it is endorsed by the UK Government, the devolved administrations and representatives from across the maritime sector.

While the PMSC is not mandatory, these bodies have a strong expectation that all harbour authorities will comply. The Code is intended to be flexible enough that any size or type of harbour or marine facility will be able to apply its principles in a way that is appropriate and proportionate to local requirements.

Recent work has included:

  • Conducting audits in compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code
  • Conducting risk assessments and compiling safety management systems
  • Conducting thorough consultation exercises
  • Training of harbour boards and staff
  • Gap analysis against best practice
  • Conducting casualty investigations in ports
  • Conducting port emergency response exercises

We are able to assist Port and Harbour authorities with a range of consultancy services related to the PMSC and its associated Marine Safety Management System (MSMS). For further information, please select the appropriate link below:
