This plan provides an overview of possible procedures in case of an oil spill, including an emergency contact list (e.g. regulatory authorities, oil cleanup teams, port state control etc.).

A SOPEP should contain:

  • Instructions for the ships oil pollution prevention team (including roles and responsibilities) to fulfil in the event of an oil spill)
  • General information about the ship
  • Procedures to control the discharge of oil in accordance MARPOL regulations
  • General arrangement of fuel/oil lines/tanks
  • Location of oil spill response equipment

Our consultants can provide a concise framework and templates, giving shipping companies and their vessels the ability to complete and maintain their own unique plans.
