Our medical consultants can offer a range of medical consultancy services aboard ships and yachts, to meet client requirements.

Medical review

Clinical Audit (1½ to 2 days) – for vessels carrying medical teams

This will involve a thorough inspection of medical facilities, emergency medical response provision, equipment and protocols. Normally conducted over 2 days, the aim of this audit is to ensure that current guidelines on the provision of healthcare are being adhered to, along with ensuring that the level of emergency medical response cover is adequate. A report on the findings along with any recommendations will be provided upon completion of the audit.

Medical Compliance Audit (1 day) – for other vessels

The aim of this 1-day audit is to make sure that ships are complying with the latest recommendations for the provision of medical care on board ship. Medication, equipment and record keeping will be inspected, along with training records and certification. A report on the findings along with any recommendations will be provided upon completion of the audit.

Emergency Medical Response Evaluation (1 day)

The purpose of this evaluation is to assess the ship’s ability to provide emergency medical care to a serious casualty and a report on the findings along with any recommendations will be provided upon completion of the visit.

The following areas will be observed:

  • First responses by crews and the ability to raise the alarm when discovering a casualty
  • Initial First Aid treatment given whilst waiting for the First Aid party to arrive
  • The ability of the First Aid Party to work as a team to stabilise the casualty
  • Communications with shore side medical assistance
  • Casualty handling using the appropriate stretchers if necessary
  • Recording the information and handing it over.
