Azimuth Nautical Solutions provides a 1-day Ballast Water Management Awareness course, which is relevant for those who need to fully understand the requirements, responsibilities and implications of non-compliance in relation to the BWM Convention. This course can be delivered at company premises or another agreed location globally.
The International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships Ballast Water and Sediments (BWM Convention) came into force from 8th September 2017. Compliance is not a simple “Fit and Forget” exercise though; as well as technical considerations, there are a number of issues for companies to address within their Safety Management System (SMS).
The ISM Code points to the need for a documented plan for implementation and the involvement of the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) and other managers who will need to understand its impact, timing, resource needs, risk mitigations and training provisions. Ballast Water Management will become a favourite topic during external audit verifications in the next few years.
