Further Offshore Emergency Training with CA-EBS and Escape Chute Training (OPITO)

This 1-day Further Offshore Emergency Training with CA-EBS and Escape Chute Training (OPITO) course provides refresher training for holders of an in-date, OPITO-approved BOSIET or TBOSIET, or FOET or TFOET certificate.

The training covers the requirements for areas of offshore activities where Compressed Air Emergency Breathing Systems (CAEBS) are in use, inclusive Escape Chute Training (ECT) meets mandatory or company specific training requirements with this safety equipment. The combined training program is fully approved by OPITO with supporting certification (see below) and both accredited to their Vantage database upon successful completion.

The maximum interval between the successful completion of BOSIET training and subsequent completion of FOET training is four years. Continuation training may be undertaken 90 days prior to the expiry date of existing certification. OPITO has authorised a ‘renewal’ window prior to a current certificate expiry date for delegates in order to complete any OPITO-approved ‘further’ (refresher) training course without the delegate being time-penalised.

Course content

The combined course consists of two OPITO-approved training programmes:

1. Further Offshore Emergency Training (FOET) with CAEBS – complements and refreshes existing emergency training, updating and reinforcing the knowledge gained on the BOSIET course with regard to helicopter underwater escape training (HUET), use of CAEBS and sea survival techniques, emergency first aid, fire fighting and self-rescue techniques using smoke hoods.

This programmed is designed to meet the further offshore safety and emergency response training requirements for personnel working in the offshore oil and gas industry. Certification is issued with a four-year validity period.

2. Escape Chute Training (ECT) – introduces or refreshes both theoretical knowledge and practical exercises in the safe use of escape chutes increasingly used on offshore installations and vessels. Certification is valid for two years from the date of issue.

Escape chute training is an additional course developed by OPITO and is acceptable under the Mutual Recognition of Basic and Refresher Safety and Emergency Preparedness Training agreement between Oil and Gas UK, Norsk olje og gass (Norway), Olie Gas Danmark (Denmark) and NOGEPA (Netherlands).

The Mutual Recognition document has been in effect since November 2007 and was revised in September 2014 to continue harmonising offshore survival training standards within sectors of the European North Sea. The course will satisfy the offshore survival training requirements for personnel intending to work in these European sectors not requiring compressed air emergency breathing systems (CAEBS).
