Proficiency in Elementary First Aid (STCW)

This 1-day course Proficiency in Elementary First Aid (STCW) is one of the mandatory STCW basic safety training courses designed to meet the minimum requirement for familiarisation and basic safety training for seafarers with designated emergency duties.

The course teaches basic first aid and life-saving skills and emphasis is placed on practical work during training. Upon completion of training delegates are expected to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Understand what to do in case of an accident or medical emergency on board.
  • Be able to apply elementary first aid techniques.

Delegates are assessed throughout the course by direct observation, simulation and role play. Additional time is allocated at the end of the programme for any delegate who requires remedial support to achieve competence. Criteria for assessment of competence are included in the course notes.

On successful completion students receive a Proficiency in Elementary First Aid certificate.

The course is also included in our STCW Basic Safety Training Week.
